Code of Conduct

Effective June 9, 2020

All TypeWknd attendees, speakers, workshop leaders, moderators, sponsors, organizers, and volunteers at our conference are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event. We expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Condensed Bold

Be professional and kind to each other, and to yourself.

Condensed

Our conference is committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, religion (or lack thereof), professional experience (or lack thereof), or technology choices (or lack thereof).

We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants.

Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference without a refund at the discretion of the conference organizers.

Extended

Harassment includes offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, lifestyle, professional experience, or technology choices; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation, threats of violence, stalking, following, or harassing; photography or recording without two-party consent; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate electronic contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.

At the conference organizers' sole discretion, an exception may be made for discussion or images related to any of the topics described above if:

  • the content is required in order to teach or speak about a typographic topic
  • no other alternative content exists
  • the content is presented professionally and respectfully

If such an exception is made, ample notice will be provided to attendees in advance. Anyone who wishes to leave the event or otherwise avoid exposure to the content will be reasonably accommodated and provided complementary re-entry to the conference after the content is no longer being discussed or displayed.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use inflammatory or sexualised materials, nor promote offensive activities, in connection with the conference.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the conference with no refund.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of TypeWknd staff immediately via email at typewknd@gmail.com.

Your emails will be kept in the strictest confidence. We will respond as quickly as possible.

TypeWknd staff will be designated with a red diamond emoji “♦️” next to their name at all conference events and can also help contact appropriate law enforcement or otherwise assist you. We value your attendance.

We expect participants to follow these rules at all TypeWknd events including social venues.
