Are you charging clients enough for custom type design and font development? Are you unsure how to value your time and skill, or that of the intellectual property rights to what you make? Are you wondering if you can make a living from making fonts?

It is difficult to find public information about pricing custom font work, and few designers or foundries talk openly about the fees they receive. As a result, a lot of font makers‚ including many with years of experience and advanced skills‚ regularly undervalue their work. This workshop provides tools for thinking about pricing systematically: to help you arrive at accurate and justifiable fees for various kinds of font work, accurately value intellectual property rights licensing or transfer, and reckon the potential and realised value of custom fonts to different kinds of clients. Market segmentation and regional variation will also be considered, and the importance of learning about the market in which you are selling your services, as well as tips for negotiating with clients.
