After going through some history examples we will dive into the requirements of modern day typesetting Japanese with mixtures of languages and writing systems. After the general introduction to typesetting with Kanji, we will discuss a few typesetting systems and their support for proper Japanese layout.

Already early on he got hooked onto foreign languages, mostly due to different writing systems, which led to about 15 different languages and several writing systems Norbert is more or less fluent with. Since his move to Japan in 2009 he grew a serious interest in Japanese typography and contributed to various projects related to fonts, typesetting, and typography.
