For the talk, I would like to share my year-long Thesis project called 'The Acoustics of Typography', where I explored the emotional interconnections between typography and music. Typography and the way it is designed conveys a certain emotion in itself, I tried to enhance this aspect by combining it with music. I designed four typefaces and composed four pieces of music inspired by particular but complex human emotions. Using code I affixed sound frequencies of the musical pieces to vertices of the typefaces, so as the music plays the typeface moves and dances along with it, enhancing the musicality and the emotion of the typeface.

Vivek Thakker is an Indian multidisciplinary designer currently based in Baltimore. His work spans across the spectrum of graphic design, with a focus on Branding, Print, Motion & Typography. He recently finished his MFA in Graphic Design at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.
Vivek is a process-driven designer who likes to be profoundly conceptual and thought-provoking in his work. His work has been recognized by various institutions, such as the Type Directors Club, Communication Arts, Society of Typographic Arts, and Kyoorius Creative Awards.
Vivek creates ambient soundscapes in his free time.
